About Trekking Hawaii

Our philosophy is to introduce visitors to the beauty and adventure of the Big Island at an affordable price. We are seriously interested in maintaining the ecological balance these islands still enjoy. We memorize and photograph the views, swim in the waters, kayak to beaches, hike through rainforests or across lava flows making every attempt to leave no trace of our visit, so others may follow and enjoy the unspoiled conditions.

Kelly Harrison started Trekking Hawaii in early 2002. He is owner, chief guide and has been adventuring around the Island of Hawaii for over 30 years. He is also owner of P&P Kayak Distributors supplying and servicing the Kayak industry around the Big Island. He has extensive experience in adventure related sports. He ran a hang gliding school for 6 years, worked as a rafting guide on the Grand Canyon, worked ski patrol for 3 years and has canoed, kayaked and trekked around the western states. He raced outriggers for 25 years, has surfed and sailed the waters of CA, Mexico and Hawaii, is scuba certified and holds black belts in martial arts. Kelly is also a licensed private pilot and current EMT with experience working in the emergency medical field.

Kelly and a friend are also the only paddlers in modern times to have completed a continous paddling circumnavigation of the Big Island. Check out the newspaper article (click on "news" below photo) or the full detailed story. You'll have a hard time finding anyone who knows the island of Hawaii more thoroughly. We are fully insured, safety is paramount and you'll be in capable hands as you explore the island with Kelly as your guide.

If you take an Eco-Adventure with us, don't expect to see Hawaii from the inside of an air conditioned bus. We get out and and get in touch with the environment. We do have easy hike or kayak excursions to incredible places. We also enjoy the longer workouts, getting wet, and enjoying the diverse terrain that will be missed by all those who opt for the bus.

If you catch Kelly when he's not too busy you might even convince him to take you on an air tour (splitting the cost of the aircraft rental), scuba diving (for those who are certified) or sailing!!
