Well, we are a bit behind on getting our settlement operational on Mars but can you believe the changes going on in kayaks these days!
First released Sept 2006, this Mirage Adventure Island can be pedaled, paddled or sailed (including fishing) but unlike the original Mirage Adventure, this one has amas on both sides and a large sail with roller furling mast to make it easier to handle in varied wind conditions.
See details below:
- A boomless, roller-furling sail rig similar to the rig on the Hobie Bravo with plenty of sail area for excellent performance, completely manageable from the cockpit with the pull of a line.
- Two retractable amas that fold up against the side of the boat for easy docking, maneuverability, and transport.
- The cockpit is an unbelievably stable platform offering full versatility as a pedaling kayak when conditions are not convenient for sailing.
- The Hobie Mirage Drive allows the boat to be pedaled while under sail, or simply pedaled with the sail furled. Remember it's still a fantastic kayak if you notice the wind is not happening.... you may choose to leave the sail amas and akas in your vehicle, kayaking while waiting for the wind to kick in.... That's versatility not found in any other kayak or sailboat.
- The Adventure Island is loaded with additional standard features such as a paddle, daggerboard; oversized "Twist and Stow" rudder,; Mast and Sail Cover; and an Ama/Daggerboard Bag.
- The Adventure Island is offered in two color choices: Papaya Yellow and Hibiscus Red. Both options include beautifully color-coordinated sails.
- New on the 2008 models is a more user friendly up/down rudder system which includes a cleat for locking the rudder down keeping the rudder firmly in place even in heavy weather conditions.
