This is a biography of one of the great watermen of all time.
From his first time stowing away to the Hawaiian Islands at age
18, working as a waikiki beachboy and becoming good buddies with
the Duke, spending his entire life working and playing on the ocean
and inadvertantly shaping the developing beach lifestyle as he lived
his life to the fullest.
He was a big wave pioneer on the North Shore in the early days,
was instrumental in spreading surfing and outrigger canoe racing throughout
California. He steered California's first Outrigger team across the Molokai Channel and starting Dana Outrigger Canoe Club in 1970 continuing his passion for the ocean, still surfing
4-5 days a week and continuing his annual Hawaii surf safari (for
a consecutive 60 years!) right up to his death in 1993 at Kawaihae
on the Big Island.
