Dive/Snorkel
Whether your a beginning snorkeler or divemaster, you'll find spectacular scenery offshore, beneath the blue/green surface. The deep water dropoffs, a short swim from shore mean it is only minutes to underwater caves, cliffs, turtles, mantas and dolphins. If you're here during the winter months (Dec-Mar), you can usually hear the whales singing their songs the moment you put your ears below the surface!!!
There are a variety of dive shops that rent snorkel and scuba gear. In Kona you can rent very inexpensive snorkel gear, including prescription masks, by the day or week. Boat dives are available in Kona or Kawaihae but many of the same sites can be accessed from shore with a bit of local knowledge. We can recommend an easy access dive location for snorkel and scuba or outfit you with kayaks to get you to those less visited locations. Of course, you're welcome to join us on a kayak/snorkel trip.
Some of our rental kayaks are set up to carry scuba gear, so if you have access to scuba gear or have rented some, you can get out to some great spots saving some of the cost of a boat dive and opening up more of the island for your underwater explorations.
