May 31st-June 1st Tournament Results:
Prior to the Tournament dates, both Offshore and Inshore were being hauled in by the local fishermen. During the tournament however, the Offshore Species went into hiding and not a single angler was able to find and haul one in. This was the first time this has happened in our tournament and we had to decide what to do with our awards we had planned to give away for the Offshore Division.

This was our 4th tournament and we're now bringing in Anglers from Oahu and other places. A few of our entrants are sponsored Pro Anglers.
One of the Oahu Pro crews is Isaac Brumagham and his team mate Trout. They both caught big Ulua but were about 10 minutes past the weigh in cut off time, causing their disqualification and a few postings on the net (not by Issac or Trout, I should add) that we might somehow be biased against Oahu contestants.
In the Inshore species:
1st went to Paul Belmudes (Big Island) who landed a 48.6 lb Ulua
2nd place went to Sam Britton bringing in a 23.8 lb Ulua
3rd place was Patrick Wilson with a 22.8 lb Barracuda
4th place went to Michael Carter with a 17.7 lb Uku
5th place went to Boogie Elgas (Oahu) with a 14lb Barracuda
6th place went to Micah Pigrolet who caught a 13.2lb Barracuda
7th place was Keith Yamamoto with a 12.6lb Ulua
8th place was Jesse Shim with a 11.2lb Aha
9th went to Daniel Valenzuela with a 10.2lb Aha
10th was Evan Obra with a 9.8lb Aha
and 11th was Joseph Christopher with a 9.4lb Ulua
Results In the offshore Category:
(No fish were landed in th Offshore Category)
We decided that since the Offshore awards were already planned to be given away, and there were no fish caught in that division, that we might as well double the awards for the Inshore division giving the 2nd angler kayak to the 2nd place Inshore contestant.
Paul Belmudes taking the top place and got his choice of Angler Kayak. He chose an Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident Angler.
Sam Britton taking 2nd received the Feel Free Moken Angler
Patrick Wilson taking 3rd won some really sharp Costa Del Mar Shades
Michael Carter coming in 4th got a Gift Certificate for $100
Boogie in 5th received a quality Aftco Gaff
Micah for 6th also took home a quality Aftco Gaff
We had a total of 34 anglers entered. Manny from Kawaihae Canoe Club again allowed us use of the Canoe Club facilities which was greatly appreciated.
Our next tournament is set for August 23rd and 24th 2008. It's again set to be a two day event.
This coming tournament we will be separating the Pro Anglers from the Recreational Class. Check out the new rules and format on: our main Tournament info page
Steve and I would like to thank all the entrants for making this contest such a great sucess. Special thanks to all the Oahu Anglers that made effort to be here and deal with the logistics of kayak fishing away from home.
We'd welcome any comments or suggestions to improve the tournament.
