The 6" Screw in Hatch is a nice accessory for storing small items close by for ease of accessibility while paddling.

    If you're planning on installing a rudder yourself, the 6" hatch is (pretty much) required unless you happen to be a magician at fishing rudder lines through the hull with only a couple of 3/8th inch openings.

     We can do the rudder installations without adding the hatch, but it also saves frustration for us if we do add the hatch so we offer installation discounts if you purchase the hatch at the same time as your rudder.
