There are a number of applications where these stainless washers come in handy.

     If you're replacing the 1.5" straps on many older kayaks you'll need the stainless washers along with webbing and rivets or you can just get the complete strap and the hardware comes with it.

     Also if you've got the newer bungee system to hold down gear and decide you want a stronger hold down system, for scuba or other heavy gear, the webbing/washer/rivet combination provides a more solid holding strap.
